The Cerro Chato hike near the Arenal Volcano is an intense 4-5 hour hike through lush rainforest to the rim of the crater of the extinct volcano called Cerro Chato. Once you arrive at the crater, you then drop down to an emerald-green lagoon. Catch your breath and take some photos because this is a "Kodak Moment." You then hike back out and descend down to the base.
Desafío employees enjoying the aqua-green lagoon inside the crater.
If it's clear, you'll get great views of the majestic Arenal Volcano along the way and then have an opportunity to visit the stunning 150-ft La Fortuna waterfall. Have a swim in the refreshing, clear river pools at the base of the waterfall. There are changing facilities as you come back up to the top.
Recommended for people in good shape and willing to hike in extreme conditions.
